Tips on how to swallow a pill?

I am terrified of swallowing pills, and every time I have tried, the pill starts to dissolve (after me gagging) and i have to run to the sink to spit it out. So, I always beg my mom to get the liquid stuff or chewables, but yesterday the doctor put me on an antibiotic and my mom brought the pills home today. They are huge, to me, and I can't even swallow a tic tac without panicking. I googled tips on how to do this, and have tried basically every thing.
