Hell-fire-ists, what is so immoral about being incorrect, especially concerning truth and beauty?

I'm reading "Why Evolution is True" by Jerry Coyne and "The Greatest Show on Earth" by Richard Dawkins. Both of these books are so beautiful and true-sounding that it makes me cry. I read the bible cover-to-cover many times years ago when I was young, and it never moved me the way science does. Why would god punish me eternally just for being incorrect, misguided about what counts as truth and beauty?
